This project investigates how people use drawings to attribute character traits, either to the drawings themselves (such as cartoon characters) or to the people who generate the drawings. The working hypothesis is that people can implicitly "enact" the variation in drawing speed used to generate the drawing, and this enaction is used to attribute character traits to both cartoon characters and the people who make the drawings. To test this hypothesis, we have developed software to track drawing velocity and pressure on a graphic tablet. Drawings generated with this software are currently being used in a cross-cultural psychological study evaluating how people link these velocity values to behavioral traits. BETS
